Just over a month ago I received a message from my beautiful blogger buddy Lydia Millen. She asked if I would be interested in the lovely Kerry (Kerry-Emma Cosmetics) tattooing my eyebrows in return for blogging about my experience (no prizes for guessing my reply).
Kerry tattooed Lydia’s brows last year and I must admit I was amazed at how natural they look (even in person). I’d always had the common misconceptions about tattooed brows, thinking they were all way too thick, blocky and black. But just looking through Kerry’s Instagram made me feel guilty for thinking so badly about the procedure! I guess it’s the same as most cosmetic treatments, you normally only see the worst cases.
I’ve always been rather thin on the brows. I’ve been filling my eyebrows in with the Benefit Browzings Kit every day for almost three years now! I don’t even want to think about calculating how many hours I’ve spent on my brows. I’m sure I’m not alone.
I’ve recently become more comfortable with my makeup-less face. For years I wouldn’t leave the house without a full face of makeup. I suffered badly from acne while I was growing up and I’ve been left with a lot of scars. (I have edited them out of the photos above for my own peace of mind, I’ll show you soon). My scars have faded so much over the last few years and I’m trying my best to embrace what I look like. I still love makeup, I love highlight & contour, fake eyelashes, lip-liner, the works. I just don’t want to feel the need to wear a full face every day anymore. It takes so much time, so much effort and I love how free my skin feels when I go bare.
Having my eyebrows tattooed is a major step in the makeup-less direction for me. The first eyebrow photo above shows my eyebrows before tattooing and the two last photos show the end of the process/just after. The colour and the sharp edges of the brows will reduce by around 30% over the next few days, giving a much more natural colour and shape. I can’t wait to see how they end up!
The whole procedure from beginning to end was amazing today. Kerry is so comforting and immediately makes you feel at home. She will give you an in-depth run through the treatment and answer any questions or queries you have. I felt so relaxed the whole time, Kerry is easy to chat to and completely reassuring.
Kerry applies an anaesthetic to your brows before the treatment to help numb the pain. The sensation was exactly the same as a normal tattoo but not painful at all. I could barely feel it!
I’ll take a close up photo for you as soon as they’ve healed so you can see the details. The brows are tattooed in hundreds of hair strokes, it truly is a labor of love. I don’t know how Kerry has the patience! This procedure can last anywhere from 2-4 years depending on how old you are and how many products you use on your face. As I’m only 19 it’s more likely to be around the 2 year mark for me. However, you can go back to Kerry for “Top-Ups”. The first top-up is free with the procedure. I’ve got my first top up booked in a months time. Kerry will look over my brows and fill in any parts that have faded. After this Top-Up I shouldn’t have to go back for another 6 months or so, although it does differ from person to person. If you didn’t want to get your brows topped up you can leave them to fade out and they’ll gradually look more along the lines of an eyebrow-tint before they fade away completely.
The treatment I received today(+ free first “Top=Up” treatment) costs £395. You’ll pay a £50 deposit, Kerry will send you a patch test to complete at home to make sure you aren’t allergic to any of the products.
Luckily for anyone who would like to go ahead with this procedure, Kerry’s given me a 10% Off Discount for everyone!
